The attached outline prepared by my wife for her 1994-95 school year, teaching U.S. History for 5th/6th grades as Moss Haven Elementary in Richardson, Texas. Her outline is enclosed in MacWrite II format.
After she scoped out the unit, I took a crack at drawing her a Timeline to put up in her room. It is fourteen feet long! I drew it in Canvas and printed it in horizontal tiles on my LaserWriter Select 360 (600 dpi), making good use of grayscale throughout. The font used is Palatino. I have also included a PICT version of the timeline for use with other drawing packages, if you don't have Canvas.
After we printed it we took it to a long table and glued the tiled pages together, after trimming one end. (I have tried this before and tiled images didn't always match up closely.... However, with the combination of Postscript 2, the LaserWriter 8 Drivers, and my new 600 dpi printer, they really matched beautifully.) It only took us about 30 minutes to glue up two copies. We used a long table with a home-made straight edge to make sure the long span of pages was reasonably straight at the top edge. Then, we rolled up our two timelines and took them to be laminated. We were able to get both timelines in one run of the laminator (24" wide), making each cost about $7! We laid the long strips on the floor, aimed them as carefully as we could STRAIGHT into the machine, and turned it on! Much to our surprise out efforts were straight enough to come out at the end of the process with very little "creep"... We were SO proud, we thought we would share our efforts with the rest of you!
